Khanna's wife Rachana and their two daughters began an intensive search to find their pet, by sending regular Facebook and WhatsApp updates, and putting out newspaper flyers and posters. They also asked their neighbours, animal shelters, dog whisperers and breeders to keep a lookout for her and even announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000 ($150).
Finally, a couple of days ago, they heard from a dog lover named Pranav, who had been following their Facebook posts. He had spotted a canine resembling Thumki in another part of the city and sent them photographs on WhatsApp. Khanna quickly reached the location, finally reuniting with Thumki.
"We've witnessed a miracle," Khanna wrote on Facebook, "but also realised that miracles take concerted and relentless effort to happen."
While Thumki lost weight during her adventures, she is back to her favourite spot for now.
